Turkey recognizes Montenegro as independent state

Turkey announced yesterday that it had recognized Montenegro as an independent state and was ready to forge diplomatic ties with the new Balkan country. Montenegro parted from Serbia after a referendum in May. Turkey, along with the European Union, Iceland, Russia and Switzerland, is one of the first countries to recognize Montenegro.
